Mercer beats Lipscomb for second win

MACON - Scott Emerson scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds, and James Odoms scored 21 Thursday night to lead Mercer to an 88-80 victory over Lipscomb in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for both teams.<br> <br> Mercer (2-5) led 21-8 nine minutes into the game. Lipscomb (1-3) nailed seven 3-pointers that helped cut the margin to two points with 4:35 left in the half, but the Bisons were able to score just once after that and Mercer led 42-35 at halftime.<br> <br> Lipscomb moved ahead 46-44 at the 16:51 mark of the second half on a 3-pointer by James Poindexter, who led the Bisons with 20 points. The Bears regained the lead with an 11-2 run that began with a 3 from Odoms.<br> <br> Russell Hankins added 17 points for Lipscomb, and Brian Fisk scored 16. Mercer got 12 points from Wesley Duke and 11 from Jay January.
