DAHLONEGA - Water rates are going up in Lumpkin County effective January 1.

The average increase is expected to be around five dollars a month.

The Dahlonega Nugget is reporting that the Lumpkin County Water & Sewer Authority voted 3-to-2 for the increase.

Customers will pay $25 for the first 3,000 gallons of water they use; that price now is about $21.

The cost for each additional 1,000 gallons will increase by a quarter to five dollars.
