ATLANTA - Steven Brown caught a 17-yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds left, giving Lincoln County a 28-24 win over Trion in a Class A semifinal on Friday at the Georgia Dome.
Brown caught four passes for 144 yards and two scores for Lincoln County (14-0). The Red Devils advanced to next week's state championship against the winner of Saturday's game between defending champion Clinch County and Hawkinsville.
``This was a wonderful win,'' said Lincoln County coach Larry Campbell, ``but we're not real happy. We've got a lot of work to do.''
Lincoln County has won nine state championships, the last coming in 1995.
Trion (12-2) erased a 22-0 halftime deficit and led 24-22 after Micah Lively pushed Lincoln's Travis Clark out of the back of the end zone for a safety with 8:18 to play.
Lincoln got the ball on its own 33 with 1:05 to play and moved to the winning score four plays, the biggest of which was Clark's 42-yard pass to Brown.
``I had dropped two and coach Campbell just told me he trusted me,'' said Brown. ``We were on the borderline of losing, and somebody had to step up and make a play.''
Clark finished with 96 yards passing and 76 rushing for Lincoln County.
Trion, which got 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Chris Chapman and 87 from Corey Day, held the Red Devils to one second-half first down before the final drive. The Bulldogs ran 77 offensive plays to Lincoln County's 38 and out-gained the Red Devils 382-286.
