Man and woman charged with murder in starvation death of grandmother

<p>A man and woman have been charged with murder in the starvation death of the womans 72-year-old grandmother.</p><p>Troy Joseph Wood, 24, and Rita Renya Dorlon, 36, were indicted on charges of murder, felony murder and cruelty to an elderly person in the death of Mary Ruth Green, said Whitfield County Sheriffs Office Capt. Rick Swiney.</p><p>Swiney said an autopsy showed that Greene died from severe chronic neglect. Greene was not given food for her medications for diabetes and other illnesses, he said.</p><p>Wood and Dorlon were being held without bond in the Whitfield County Jail.</p><p>Members of Woods family said they had contacted the Whitfield County Department of Family and Children Services about conditions at the home but nothing was done.</p><p>Joe Roberts, the agencys director, said he was aware of only one phone call from a family member and a worker checked the residence and found no problems.</p><p>Emergency workers found Green dead in a bed in the back of Dorlons home. At first they thought she died in her sleep but then found that the woman was covered with insect bites, bed sores and skin burns.</p>
