Gainesville Public Works Director Perry Eisenach presented a resolution to the City Council Thursday for money to replace 550-feet of old and damaged fencing in that area.
"It's in bad shape and although I haven't been here that long, I think it definitely needs to be fixed and replaced," Eisenach said.
"This will make it look much better at least on that section. There are some other areas that should be addressed over time."
The resolution calls for $26,875 to be spent to replace the chain-link fence with a steel, bar fence. Eisenach said the work should begin soon.
There are still plans in the works to build a 3,600-space mausoleum at the cemetery to help it handle future needs over the next 150 years.
