NORCROSS - Gainesville girls basketball coach Manson Hill wanted his Class AAA No. 1-ranked team to be challenged this year assembling a tough schedule that has them traveling out of the state twice.

But he probably didn't expect them to have to stage a fourth-quarter rally in their opener against Central Gwinnett to start the season.

The Lady Red Elephants outscored the Lady Black Knights 22-7 in the final period to pull out a 62-50 win Thursday night in the Parkview Invitational Tournament.

Gainesville (1-0) trailed much of the game, including 14-9 after the first quarter, 32-26 at halftime and 43-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

Tasha Humphrey led the comeback with 27 points.

Gainesville will play in the championship game Saturday night.
