MARIETTA - A jury from Lumpkin County has handed a Paulding County man a life sentence without the possibility of parole for a double homicide in Cobb County four years ago.
The jury deliberated Michael Buttram's sentence for nine hours before returning its decision Saturday night; the same jury had found him guilty Friday.

The state had been seeking the death penalty in the Marietta trial and the jury had been picked in Dahlonega because of pre-trial publicity in the Atlanta area.
Jury selection began in Dahlonega November 3. The jury was sequestered in Marietta for the duration of the trial.
