CARTERSVILLE - It was a bod omen for the Johnson Knights football team when usually almost-automatic Jesus Noriega missed two first half field goals in their Class AAA first round playoff game against Cartersville.

The Knights never recovered falling 31-6 to the Purple Hurricanes on the road.

Cartersville (10-1) will advance to play Stephens County in the second round. Cartersville beat Stephens in the season-opener 16-3 in September.

Johnson's only score came late in the game on a touchdown pass from Michael Hansard to Johnathan Mixon.

The loss ended the best-ever season for a Johnson team. The Knights finished 8-3 and the 14 wins over the last two seasons years also was the best-ever two-year stretch in the history of the program.

B.J. Jackson and Cardy McKensey each nearly ran for 100 yards but the Cartersville defense denied the Knights on several third and fourth down conversions deep in their own territory.
