JEFFERSON - Brent Benson scored 25 points and the Gainesville boys basketball team routed Class A St. Francis 90-55 Tuesday night in the Jefferson Invitational Tournament.

With the win the Red Elephants (2-1) advanced to the tournament finals and will play the Jefferson-Dacula winner Saturday night in the finals.

Gainesville will play host to Collins Hill Wednesday night.

Gainesville jumped on St. Francis, which was without two of its starters, one because of the flu and another for academic problems, early and cruised to the win.

Gainesville coach Jerry Davis said it wouldv'e been much closer if St. Francis had been at full strength.

"The two guys who were out were basically their best players. It's a shame because it would've been a great game. But we're always happy to get a win," he said.

Sophomore Byron Williams had a huge game scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. James Chester added 11 points as 11 different players scored for Gainesville.

Corey Wilmont failed to score in double figures for the first game this year with just 2 points but dished out 10 assists. Jon Mark Owings had 5 points and 12 rebounds.
