CUMMING - The future of a new jail and courthouse in Forysth County will be in hands of the voters in a planned March referendum.

Both issues were on separate ballots in 2000 and 2001 and rejected by voters.

On Wednesday, the County Commission voted 4-1 to combine the two projects into a single bond referendum in an effort to get the $61 million project moving forward.

A four-story, 350-bed jail would anchor the complex. The complex would also house a new sheriff's main office.

Part of the money would be spent on new precincts in the soutthern and northern parts of the county.
