UT freshman to redshirt for medical reasons

KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE - Tennessee freshman Jordan Howell has decided leave school for medical reasons and redshirt the upcoming season, coach Buzz Peterson announced Wednesday. <br> <br> Jordan signed with Georgia last year but asked to be released from his scholarship when coach Jim Harrick retired amid allegations of wrongdoing. He intended to play for the Volunteers this fall. <br> <br> School officials, citing stricter laws that protect the privacy of medical records, could not say whether Howell had an illness or injury. <br> <br> Jordan, a guard from Auburn, Ala., said he will return to school in January as he redshirts the 2003-04 season. <br> <br> ``We fully support Jordan and his family&#39;s decision,&#39;&#39; Peterson said in a statement. ``We look forward to him coming back in January, if not sooner.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Howell averaged 17.5 points on 47 percent shooting from 3-point range as a senior for Bob Jones High School.
