CLARKESVILLE - Habersham County property owners are facing the prospects of a 22 percent increase in their school tax rate.

The county school board, after losing more than a million dollars in state funding the past couple of years, is proposing a tax rate of 12.5 mills.

The rate is now 10.2 mills. Public hearings on the proposed tax rate increase will be held in Clarkesville Tuesday night and again a week later.

Two will be held October 14 at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

One session will be held October 21 at 6:00 p.m.
