Despite being in the midst of a 15-game losing streak, Fligg said Monday he's never been more crushed after any single loss than last week's 31-24 double overtime loss to West Hall.
"It was devastating to all of us," he said. "We played so well. It looked liked we had the game under control and then we let them back in. And then to end the way we did just wanted to make you cry."
Trailing 31-24 in the second overtime, the War Eagles fumbled at the West Hall 2 to preserve the win for the Spartans.
"We were going to score. Neither defense could stop the other's offense. That was the only way someone was going to lose," he said.
But, there's no rest for the weary this time of year. Chestatee (0-6, 0-6 Region 7-AAA) travels to Pickens County (3-3, 3-3) still looking for that first win of the season.
The War Eagles, who have suffered injuries to six key starters the last two weeks, could get some good news. It's expected that last year's leading passer in Hall County - Tyler Stover - will get his first start of the year.
"Right now he's 100 percent. He played the last two junior varsity games to get back some rhythm. We'll see how he does during practice this week but it's still going to be a game-time decision. But I think there's a good chance he'll start," Fligg said.
Pickens, like all of the opponents Chestatee has seen this year, is on a roll. The Dragons have won three straight, including a solid 35-26 win over East Hall last week.
"They played a complete game (against East Hall)," Fligg said. "They're big and strong but not as fast as some of the other teams we've played. We've been playing pretty well. Except for a few bad plays on special teams and the fumble, we would've won the last two games so I like our chances."
But Pickens has a little more to play for right now, Fligg said.
"I'm sure they'll be ready. They've played themselves into the playoff hunt and I'm sure they'll be fired up and hungry for another win. It's definitely going to be a challenge," Fligg said.
