Lieutenant Jeff Harris says it is believed to be accidental.
"It appears that she...fell off her scooter hitting her head," said Harris.
Lauren Ashley Valentine died of her head injury at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Wednesday.
The accident happened near her home in The Retreat apartments about six Monday night.
A funeral service is scheduled at one Saturday afternoon in Marietta.
Harris says children always should wear a helmet when riding scooters, skateboards, or bikes. He also says they should ride in safe areas and avoid going too fast.
