Bulldogs drop one spot in BCS standings

ATLANTA - Following narrow wins as big favorites against Vanderbilt and Alabama-Birmingham, Georgia fell one spot to fifth in the Bowl Championship Series standings released Monday.<br> <br> Georgia (7-1) struggled to a 16-13 homecoming win over Alabama-Birmingham Saturday. While the Bulldogs dropped from fourth to fifth, Florida State moved up to third, trailing only undefeated Oklahoma and Miami in the race to play for the national championship.<br> <br> Southern California, third in both the AP and coaches polls, is fourth in the BCS standings.<br> <br> Georgia remained No. 4 in this week&#39;s Associated Press Top 25.<br> <br> The BCS standings are used to determine which teams play in a national title game. The teams that finish 1-2 in the final BCS standings on Dec. 7, will play for the title in New Orleans on Jan. 4.<br> <br> The formula uses the AP media and coaches&#39; polls, seven computer rankings, strength of schedule, losses and a bonus-point system for quality wins.
