GHSA puts final touches on new realignment

ATLANTA - The Georgia High School Association&#39;s state executive committee approved five appeals Tuesday and finalized region alignments for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years.<br> <br> Two regions 2-AAAA and 3-AAAA will have new looks as the result of the appeals, while 1-AAAA was left as only a five-team region for the next two academic years.<br> <br> Region 2-AAAA was reduced from 11 to eight teams in the new alignment, as Westside Macon, Warner Robins, Northside Warner Robins and Central Macon successfully appealed to move from the region to a new 13-team 3-AAAA and Wayne County successfully appealed to move from 1-AAAA to 2-AAAA.<br> <br> The 1-AAAA will include Americus, Bainbridge, Lee County, Thomas County Central and Ware County.<br> <br> The eight-team Region 2-AAAA: Baldwin, Effingham County, Evans, Greenbrier, Jones County, Lakeside-Evans, Statesboro and Wayne County.<br> <br> The 13-team Region 3-AAAA: Carver-Columbus, Central Macon, Dutchtown, Eagles Landing, Griffin, Hardaway, Henry County, Luella, Northside Warner Robins, Stockbridge, Upson Lee, Warner Robins and Westside Macon.<br> <br> Also Tuesday, after the 15 3-AAA schools were deadlocked on a vote, the GHSA committee divided the region into north and south subregions.<br> <br> The 3-AAA North includes Richmond Academy, Butler, Cross Creek, Hephzibah, Glenn Hills, Harlem, Thomson and Davidson. The 3-AAA South includes Benedictine/St. Vincents, South Effingham, Liberty County, Richmond Hill, Jefferson County and Burke County.
