Mercer wins Atlantic Sun opener

DELAND - Aleem Muhammad scored 16 points to lead six Mercer players in double figures as the Bears defeated Stetson 86-72 in an Atlantic Sun Conference game. <br>

The Bears (6-3, 1-0) shot 55.9 percent from the field to win their fifth game in their last six outings. <br>
<br>
Trailing 46-to-31 at halftime, Stetson (1-9, 0-2) closed to 60-50 on a Ravii Givens free throw with 12:33 left, but the Bears went on a 9-to-1 run to regain control, taking a 69-51 advantage on a Muhammad basket with 10:10 to play. <br>

Delmar Wilson added 14, Clarence Baker and Jay January each scored 12, and Scott Emerson double-doubled with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Bears. <br>
<br>
Mark Stiles led Stetson with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Alexis McMillan scored 12, and Van Morris and Givens added 10 each.
