ALBANY - Albany city officials once were looking to save the historic Radium Springs Casino from demolition. Now, they're just hoping to save parts of it.

As a federally mandated demolition deadline looms, officials are trying to save wooden fixtures inside the building, built in 1925.

Albany city commissioners voted this week to spend about 12,000 to extract some valuable doors, columns, ceiling trim nad other wooden fixtures made of cypress wood.

But final approval still hinges on whether Dougherty County is willing to shoulder some of the financial burden of the salvage effort. County officials plan to discuss the issue Monday.

Mayor Tommy Coleman says so far, the county hasn't shown any interest in helping save the pieces.

A fire destroyed most of the orginal building in 1982.
