Police chief accused of harassment resigns

VILLA RICA - Police Chief Dean Maddox, accused of sexual harassment by three former employees, resigned Tuesday night at a meeting of the City Council. <br> <br> Maddox, who has been chief for eight years, has been the subject of a complaint the former employees filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. <br> <br> He has denied the allegations but said he was under a lot of stress. <br> <br> ``There&#39;s been a lot of things going on for a long time, a lot of pressures,&#39;&#39; Maddox told the council. ``You supported me, and I&#39;ve enjoyed working for you through these years. We&#39;ve come a long way. I&#39;m resigning. It&#39;s time to do something else, I guess.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Mayor Monroe Spake said the west Georgia city would continue to defend Maddox against the harassment accusations. <br> <br> ``I think that at this time it was best for the city to accept his resignation,&#39;&#39; Spake said. ``We&#39;re not saying he&#39;s guilty of anything.&#39;&#39;
