ATLANTA - Six Georgia cities have received a total of $4.4 million from the federal government for Early Head Start programs. <br>

The grants, announced Thursday, are part of $72 million in aid to 160 agencies around the country. <br>
<br>
Early Head Start provides comprehensive child development and family support services to low-income pregnant women and families with children under age 3. It also teaches parenting skills and helps families move toward self-sufficiency, federal officials said. <br>
<br>
In Athens, Clarke County School District received $240,000 and about $200,000 went to the Area Community to Improve Opportunities. <br>
<br>
In Atlanta, The Sheltering Arms received more than $1.07 million and Easter Seal of North Georgia Inc. got $587,000. <br>
<br>
Community Action for Improvement of LaGrange received nearly $719,000 and Southwest Georgia CAC Inc. in Moultrie got $660,000. <br>
<br>
Emanuel County Board of Education of Swainsboro received $270,000 and Concerted Services, Inc. of Waycross received $647,000.
