ALBANY - Baseball greats Don Mattingly and Cal Ripken Junior will become partial owners of the Class A South Georgia Waves.
Waves owner David Heller says he has arranged to sell minority shares of the team, a member of the South Atlantic League and an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Waves arrived in Albany in March, but poor attendance led Heller to move the team to Evansville, Indiana, which is Mattingly's home town.
The team is expected to move in 2004.
Evansville's mayor has proposed building a new downtown 6,000-seat stadium. The Waves had an average home attendance of about one thousand and a 75-63 record in 2002.
