Woman who fought married teacher ban in Fulton County dies at 89

EAST POINT - The College Park woman who successfully sued Fulton County over its policy in the 1930s banning married women from teaching has died. Mary Louise Jones Hughie was 89. <br>

Hughie died of cardiac arrhythmia Saturday at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral services were Tuesday. <br>
<br>
Hughie was fired from a teaching job at a Fulton County public school after she got married. <br>
<br>
Backed by the Fulton County Teachers Association, she won a lawsuit against the school board. She went on to teach and be a principal at several county schools. <br>
<br>
Survivors include two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
