Woman and son attacked by family dogs

ATLANTA - A 7-year-old boy and his mother were attacked by four pit bulls in their northwest Atlanta apartment Wednesday. <br> <br> Atlanta police Sergeant John Quigley says officers responded to a report of a person screaming at an apartment unit on 180 Jackson Street about 4:45 p.m.. There they found four pit bulls inside the home attacking the boy and his 25-year-old mother. <br> <br> Quigley said the dogs belonged to the family. <br> <br> One officer fired at two of the dogs, causing the other two to scatter. He then pulled the mother and son out of the apartment. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not known. <br> <br> It was not known if the officer&#39;s bullets hit any of the dogs. Police were waiting for animal control officials to arrive at the apartment to take away the dogs. <br> <br> It was the second dog mauling in two days in the metro area. <br> <br> Police in Norcross say a 52-year-old woman there died Monday after she was mauled by her family&#39;s pit bulls. <br> <br> The body of Flora Lubin was found about 10 p.m. at a house in the 4100 block of Singletree Place. <br> <br> Gwinnett police Corporal Dan Huggins said Tuesday that initial autopsy results indicated Lubin died of dog bites. Seven dogs were removed from the home by animal control authorities.
