Several Georgia cities near record low temperatures

ATLANTA - Chilly weather around Georgia was one for the books Saturday, as Augusta set a record low and several other cities came close. <br> <br> Temperatures dropped to 14 degrees between 6 and 7 a.m. Saturday in Augusta the coldest it&#39;s been on Jan. 18 since at least 1873, when records were first kept in that area. The previous low was 15 degrees in 1981. <br> <br> Macon tied its record low of 16 degrees first set in 1976, and Athens also matched its record of 13 degrees, which was first posted in 1994. <br> <br> Atlanta, Columbus and Savannah also came within a few degrees of meeting their all-time lows. Records for most Georgia cities have been kept since the 1870s. <br> <br> ``For the month, we&#39;re 1.9 degrees below normal,&#39;&#39; said Jeff Dobur, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. ``I think these cold temperatures are being offset by some of the warmer temperatures we had in the first part of the month.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> The National Weather Service doesn&#39;t forecast more record lows. Temperatures are expected to go back up slightly over the next five days, Dobur said.
