Superior Court judges committee to study sentencing guidelines

ATHENS - Superior Court judges decided Tuesday to study proposed sentencing guidelines recommended by the Governor&#39;s Commission on Certainty in Sentencing. <br> <br> Former Gov. Roy Barnes set up the commission to determine how the prison system could benefit from more uniform, narrow sentencing ranges and alternative sentencing measures. <br> <br> The state Legislature sets sentencing ranges and would have to approve any new changes in the way convicted criminals are sentenced. <br> <br> The Georgia Council of Superior Court Judges&#39; uniform rules committee decided without a vote to study the proposal during its winter meeting.
