MACON - A Georgia man was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for phoning a bomb threat against Vice President Dick Cheney at a speech in July in Macon.
Roland F. Brown, of Dry Branch, pleaded guilty in November to calling in the threat.
Cheney spoke at the Macon City Auditorium on July 19 during a fund-raiser for then-Representative Saxby Chambliss, who was running for U.S. Senate.
U.S. District Court Judge Hugh Lawson gave the 29-year-old Brown the maximum prison sentence and also ordered him to serve three years on probation after his release.
U.S. Attorney Maxwell Wood said, ``Any and all threats of terrorism are taken seriously and diligently investigated. Those thinking of making such threats, even as a joke, should think again.''
