ATLANTA - Morris Brown College, the historically black school that was stripped of its accreditation last month, is revamping its board of trustees to bring in more people with business experience.

The board added six new members Wednesday, including five with business experience.

The additions, combined with the resignations and retirements of several members, means that nearly half of the board is now comprised of new members.

Board chairman Frank Cummings says the college aggressively sought out individuals with business experience to help with its recovery plan.

The school, millions of dollars in debt, is appealing the loss of its accreditation, yanked largely because of its shaky finances.
The new board appointees are:

- Isaac Blythers, president of Atlanta Gas Light Company and Chattanooga Gas Company

- James Young, president and CEO of Citizens Trust Bank

- Joan King, retired partner at Accenture

- Bishop Eddie Long, founder and pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church

- Leroy Smith, senior vice president and international manager of GMAC Commercial Finance

- Miranda Mack McKenzie, director of corporate affairs at Anheuser Busch Companies.
