SOCIAL CIRCLE - The number of dead birds discovered in a homeowner's yard and a nearby farm has grown more than 3,200 as wildlife officials consider whether to file charges.

Officials say the birds likely ate a chemical sprayed on corn to ward off annoying animals.

The birds were found in the town of White, in Bartow County, on January 21. Hundreds more -- including ducks, geese, red-winged blackbirds and hawks -- were found Wednesday on a nearby farm.

Wildlife officials are considering filing charges. State and federal authorities say the chemical was misused, and they continue to investigate.

Federal officials are involved because the bird deaths include migratory birds and because a pesticide potentially has been misused.

No arrests have been made, and officials would not say who owned the farm where the poisoned corn was found.
