DECATUR - Five members of a suburban Atlanta family were found shot dead in their apartment Tuesday in an apparent murder-suicide.
DeKalb County police said they found Ian Willabus, 33, a freelance writer for CNN International, his 32-year-old wife, Diane, and three young sons. The boys, ages 3, 5 and 10, were from the man's previous marriage.

The family appeared to have been dead for several days, police spokesman Dale Davis said.

``I had been calling, and it was just bizarre because he hadn't been responding to my messages,'' said Chris Williams, a co-worker and friend of Willabus.

Another co-worker called police Tuesday morning after no one answered the door.

Willabus had been writing freelance for CNN and ``contributed frequently on a broad array of subjects,'' CNN spokesman Nigel Pritchard said.

Police did not say who pulled the trigger.

Davis said officers responded to a disturbance call last month at the apartment, where the couple had been arguing.

``I saw them both Thursday and they seemed fine,'' Williams said, adding that the man had been looking for a condo the past two weeks because his family had grown too big for the apartment.

Williams said Willabus moved to the area from New York and had recently brought his sons from Guyana.

``I know couples that have fights, and they go through things all the time,'' Williams said. ``But to the point where at least at this level of violence with a murder-suicide - and then you have the children as well - it's unfathomable.''
