ATHENS - Middle linebacker Marquis Elmore joined contact drills with the Georgia Bulldogs Wednesday for the first time since early in freshman practice.
Elmore had been wearing a green, non-contact jersey as he recovered from arthroscopic back surgery last month.
Coach Mark Richt says it is not too late for Elmore to make an impact this season, although he missed all of the two-a-day drills.
Depth at middle linebacker was an issue in the win against Clemson on Saturday after starter Tony Gilbert sprained an ankle in the second quarter.
Arnold Harrison and freshman Tony Taylor played behind Gilbert, who is expected to return to practice next week.
Also Wednesday, junior defensive end Shedrick Wynn -- who entered preseason drills listed as Number three -- was suspended for three games for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
Georgia is off this weekend, but will be back September 14 at South Carolina.
