FENTON, MISSOURI - A Georgia man who apparently shot himself in a Missouri motel this week was wanted for shooting two Alabama police officers.
Authorities have identified the fugitive as 31-year-old Neil Perkins - of Roswell, Georgia. Perkins killed himself Wednesday night after an hours-long standoff with police.
Police received a tip that Perkins was staying at the Motel 6 in Fenton near Interstate 44. His body was found eight hours after FBI units and police tactical squads evacuated the motel and began negotiations for a surrender.
Perkins had been charged with shooting two police officers in Montgomery, Alabama. Officers found Perkins' body in an attic space above one of the motel rooms.
Police in Montgomery issued arrest warrants last week for Perkins, who was charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of transporting stolen property into Alabama.
