FORSYTH - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has chosen 53 agents to be the first people to respond to disasters in the state.
This week, the so-called ``first responders to mass casualities'' are attending classes at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.

They're learning what to do after an airplane crash, how to deal with personal stress while working amid the fatalities, and how to recover human remains.
Lee Sweat is a GBI inspector who helped choose the first responders. He says in the past the agency has chosen teams to respond after disasters.

Sweat says the disvoery of hundreds of corpses at the Tri-State Crematory in northwest Georgia made agency officials realize they needed a plan to deal with large numbers of bodies.

He says under the new plan the group will know to pack their bags at the first word of a disaster.
Sweat says the team is the first of its kind in the state.
A coroner from upstate New York - Grady Bray - held a training session yesterday that focused on the stress associated with working at a disaster scene.
