Man who discovered gold in NE Georgia remembered

MURRAYVILLE - The descendants of Benjamin Parks, the man credited with starting the gold rush in 1828 in northeast Georgia, held their 50th family reunion Sunday in Murrayville. <br> <br> The reunion was held at Yellow Creek Baptist Church where Parks served as an elder. <br> <br> Legend has it that Ben Parks discovered gold in northeast Georgia when he kicked a stone in the Chestatee River during a deer hunting excursion near Dahlonega. About 180 people attended the reunion including 89-year- old Woodrow Parks of Dahlonega, Ben Parks&#39; oldest living descendant.
