COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA - South Carolina beat Georgia in 2000 and 2001, but this time it's going to be a little more difficult.
Anytime South Carolina catches up in recruiting, Georgia seems to tap into its national championship past and large base to push ahead.
Warren Giese's team went to Athens in 1958 and beat the Bulldogs 24-14.
Two decades -- and 13 straight Georgia victories -- later, Gamecocks coach Jim Carlen and his Heisman Trophy winning tailback George Rogers looked like they would lead the turnaround with straight victories over the Bulldogs in 78-79.
After Georgia won seven of the next eight in the series, quarterback Todd Ellis felt confident South Carolina had closed the gap between the two schools when his Gamecocks beat Georgia in 1988 and 1989.
The teams did not play again until South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992. Georgia had won six of the first eight with their SEC East Division rival until South Carolina took the 2000 meeting 21-10.
