MACON - A Warner Robins company, in a plea agreement with prosecutors, has been fined more than $24,000 for defrauding the U.S. Air Force out of more than $14,000.
U.S. District Judge Wilbur D. Owens Jr. on Wednesday ordered Cobra Technologies of Georgia to pay a $10,000 fine, $400 in court fees and restitution of $14,194.40. He also placed the company on probation for five years.
The judge could have imposed a maximum fine of $500,000.
In the plea agreement, the U.S. Attorney's Office agreed to prosecute only the company and not to pursue criminal charges against individuals in the company. Cobra CEO Ferman Hatton pleaded guilty on the company's behalf in June.
The company admitted that it submitted altered parts documents on a contract for tube assemblies, overcharging the Air Force by more than $14,000.
