KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE - Tennessee sophomore receiver Montrell Jones was charged last month with marijuana possession and has been internally disciplined by the athletic department, coach Phillip Fulmer announced Thursday.
Jones, who had caught six passes for 64 yards in the No. 4 Volunteers' first two games, was arrested Aug. 2 in Louisville, his hometown.

Jones pleaded not guilty on Aug. 6 and agreed to seek drug counseling as part of the Jefferson County (Ky.) diversion program, The Tennessean and The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported Thursday on their website editions.

Jones requested and passed a drug test when he arrived at the university later in August, Fulmer said Thursday afternoon.

``There are a number of circumstantial issues regarding this matter. Montrell and his family made me aware of the incident immediately, and it has been investigated and dealt with as a matter of team policy and rules,'' Fulmer said. ``If there are no further issues, this matter is closed.''
Jones entered the diversion program on Aug. 27, and the charge will be expunged from his record if he completes the program by Oct. 8.
Jones was stopped on Aug. 2 near downtown Louisville while driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee with the headlights off.

The officer smelled a ``strong odor of marijuana,'' and found marijuana and paraphernalia in the Jeep during a search, according to a police report.
Jones, a former Kentucky Mr. Football, committed to Kentucky while he was at Male High School but then signed with the Vols.
