ATLANTA - The former chief financial officer of a company that made police and firefighters' uniforms for several metro Atlanta governments has been accused of scheming to defraud Citizens Trust Bank out of $770,000.
According to a federal indictment, Jason Orenstein of JRO Group Inc. sold fraudulent invoices to the bank and in some cases diverted money to his personal use.
JRO attracted the attention of federal authorities investigating Atlanta and Fulton County governments two years ago. Company officials were called before a federal grand jury and ordered to produce records concerning former Fulton County Commission Chairman Mitch Skandalakis, who was receiving retainers from JRO.
JRO stopped paying Skandalakis after the federal investigation became public, Orenstein said at that time.
