Almost 4 inches of rain in Gainesville

UNDATED - The rains associated with Tropical Storm Hanna that fell over the weekend in Gaiensville totaled about four inches - the first significant rainfall since August 24th when half-an-inch was recorded.<br> <br> The rainy weather brought with it gusty winds that downed trees and powerlines, resulting in scattered power outages in the Gainesville-Hall County area.<br> <br> Both Georgia Power and Jackson EMC reported a number of power outages in the Gainesville area. They reported about 600 customers without power for a time. A traffic accident near Sherwood Plaza in Gainesville took down a utility pole, causing additional outages. <br> <br> Officials reported a tree down on Old Cornelia Highway near East Hall Stadium. Trees and power lines were also reported down in the Thompson Bridge Road/Price Road area and on Lakeside Drive. Up to 50,000 people were in the dark in metro Atlanta at the height of the storm.<br> <br> Gainesville received 3.59 inches of rain between Friday morning and Monday morning. Much of north Georgia was under a flash flood watch Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Severe thunderstorm warnings were posted for several northeast Georgia counties at mid-afternoon Saturday.
