Macon OKs lease for new hockey team

MACON, Ga. - Macon has replaced the Whoopee, which folded after the last hockey season due to lagging attendance.<br> <br> The City Council approved a lease Tuesday night for the new team, which will be called the Trax.<br> <br> &#34;Now we can really go out and sell the season tickets and sell the fans,&#34; team owner Dave Adams said.<br> <br> The Trax will be in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League - a smaller league than the East Coast Hockey League that included the Whoopee, a fixture in Macon for six seasons.<br> <br> Adams said the team will need an average of 1,200 fans per game in the Macon Coliseum to turn a profit.<br> <br> Macon Whoopee officials said they needed to sell more than 3,000 tickets per game to survive. Last year, the team sold an average of 2,700 tickets a game, but due to no-shows, attendance averaged 1,600.<br> <br>
