NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - Vanderbilt has added Chattanooga to its 2003 football schedule, the school announced Wednesday.

The series, which the Commodores lead 17-1, began in 1927. Vanderbilt won 7-0 when the teams last played in 1985. The Mocs' only win was in 1945.

Athletic director Todd Turner said the game benefits both schools because Nashville is close enough for Chattanooga fans to ``comfortably make the trip and support their team.''

Chattanooga coach Donnie Kirkpatrick said he welcomes the exposure from the game.

``I thought if we could play an SEC team, it would be good for our program. At the same time, if we could play an SEC team that was in the state of Tennessee, that would be even better.''

The Sept. 6 game means the Commodores will play seven of their 12 games at home.
