Jury awards Buford student $3 million

ATLANTA - A Fulton County jury awarded $3 million to a Buford student who was handcuffed by a security guard at a movie theater while waiting for his mother to pick him up. <br> <br> Darius Walker, 16, today is a high-school football star and honors student, but three years ago a security guard at an AMC movie theater thought he was a loiterer. <br> <br> In March 1999, Walker was waiting at the theater for his mother to pick him up after he and three friends saw a movie. <br> <br> A security guard, Kevin Kellas, approached him and asked for his ticket stub. When Walker, then a seventh-grader, tried to walk away, Kellas grabbed and cuffed him. <br> <br> His mother, Laverne Walker, said Kellas threw him to the ground, choked him and handcuffed him. <br> <br> ``When I got to the theater, Darius was hysterical and crying,&#39;&#39; she said. <br> <br> Misdemeanor charges were filed against Darius but eventually dropped. <br> <br> The family filed suit against AMC and Kellas in Fulton County, where the movie chain&#39;s registered agent is.
