Georgia a possible finalist for site of auto plant

POOLER - Georgia is competing with Charleston, South Carolina, to become the home of a new DaimlerChrysler van plant. <br> <br> The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports in today&#39;s editions that executives with DaimlerChrysler AG have met with Governor Barnes and the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism - R.K. Sehgal - to discuss bringing the plant to Pooler, west of Savannah. <br> <br> The newspaper reports that DaimlerChrysler attorneys and state lawyers have met to discuss specifics of a 1,500-acre tract the state is offering. It says DaimlerChrysler has eliminated Jacksonville, Florida, as a potential site for the plant. <br> <br> The $700 million plant would employ about three-thousand and produce cargo vans. <br> <br> In South Carolina, a state panel has agreed to spend $2.5 million as an incentive to DaimlerChrysler to build the plant in Charleston.
