Georgia-Pacific names company president

ATLANTA - Two weeks after delaying the spinoff of its consumer products and packaging businesses, Georgia-Pacific Corp. Friday named Lee M. Thomas as president of the Atlanta-based company. <br> <br> Thomas, 58, was president of Georgia-Pacific&#39;s building-products operations. He joined the company in 1993. <br> <br> The title of president was previously held by A.D. ``Pete&#39;&#39; Correll, Georgia-Pacific&#39;s chairman and chief executive officer. <br> <br> Earlier this month, Georgia-Pacific put on hold plans to spin off its consumer products and packaging business into a new publicly held company, citing weak market conditions and difficult times in its building products unit. <br> <br> George-Pacific is one of the world&#39;s largest manufacturers of paper and building products. Its tissue brands include Quilted Northern, Angel Soft and Brawny. The company had sales of $25 billion last year. <br> <br> Shares of Georgia-Pacific closed Friday at $13.45 on the New York Stock Exchange, down 50 cents, or 3.6 percent. The day&#39;s weakest level of $13.28 was a new 52-week low. The prior low of $13.45 was set Thursday.
