WINDER - For the first time in four years, the Barrow County Board of Education is cutting the school tax rate. The millage rate was reduced by eliminating a 1.1 mill levy for bond retirement. <br>

School officials say they were able to reduce the millage rate because revenue from a sales tax now covers bond expenses. The tax rate reduction means the taxes on a house in Barrow County worth $100,000 will be reduced by $68 this year.
