FAYETTEVILLE - The woman who led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal accident last weekend now faces ten felony charges related to identity fraud.
Authorities said 37-year-old Loraine McCrary, who was trying to elude police in her Ford Explorer when she crashed into a minivan and killed the driver, had 30 fraudulently obtained credit cards and at least 140 other fraudulent documents, such as checks, in the vehicle.
Fayette County Sheriff's Major Bruce Jordan said Thursday said she ran from police when they asked for her identification. He said, ``There's clear evidence that she had a lot more reason to run than traffic violations.''
McCrary, who had three of her children in the vehicle, led police on a 22-mile chase from Meriwether County to the edge of Peachtree City, where she collided with a minivan driven by 44-year-old Chuck Vicha. The Georgia State Patrol said he was killed instantly.
Jordan said at the time of the chase, McCrary was already wanted in Coweta County. He said she has been charged in the past with passing bad checks and driving under the influence.
