Americans' apparent reluctance to fly September 11 is causing airlines to cut back on flights.
American and United -- the two biggest airlines -- are making unspecified cuts on the anniversary of the terror attacks. Delta is cutting flights for the whole work week.
Travel agents, passengers and industry experts say fear of another attack, patriotism and remembrance all contribute to the reluctance to fly.
A passenger at the airport in Columbus, Ohio, says September 11 is ``a national holiday now'' and he won't fly.
A spokesman for the Air Transport Association says a commercial flight will be ``one of the safest places'' to spend the day.
American and United have either retired or renumbered the four flights hijacked in the attacks. None will fly on the anniversary.
