LAFAYETTE - Police said a Georgia man accused in the fatal shooting of two brothers in Walker County was arrested day in Arizona.

Twenty-one-year-old Donnie Allen Hulett was arrested at a convenience store in Casa Grande, Arizona, after Georgia investigators got a tip from a female acquaintance of Hulett, who said he would be at the store to pick up a money order.

Hulett is charged with murder for the July 22 shooting deaths of Larry and Arvine Phelps, retired educators who were doing volunteer work at a youth home when they were killed.

The brothers were clearing brush near the Mountain Top Boys Home in Villanow, a residence for teenagers who have been in juvenile court.

The home is between LaFayette and Calhoun in the Chattahoochee National Forest and has been operated by the United Methodist Church from Greater Atlanta since 1980.

Police said Hulett drove away in a red 2000 Ford F-150 pickup he stole from Larry Phelps. He was still driving the truck when Arizona police arrested him, but he had swapped tags with a truck in Wheeler County.

Police said no weapons were recovered in the truck.

Authorities thought Hulett had fled to Florida and were surprised to find him in Casa Grande, about 30 miles south of Phoenix. He was last seen in Telfair County, where he once lived.

Sixty-two-year-old Larry Phelps was a retired Whitfield County teacher and 69-year-old Arvine Phelps was a retired Dalton State College professor.

Georgia authorities were planning to fly to Arizona Saturday to interview Hulett. There is no word on whether he will fight extradition to Georgia.
