MCDONOUGH - Republican Rep. Steve Cash, chairman of the Henry County legislative delegation, has withdrawn from the District 60 House race, saying that redistricting by Democrats has ``effectively shut my voters out of the process.''
Cash's new three-member district is dominated by heavily Democratic south DeKalb County. His withdrawal leaves only Democratic candidates in the 60th, which includes portions of predominantly Republican Henry County.
``The ability of the people of Henry County to elect candidates of their choice has been taken away,'' said Cash, 48, a homebuilder from Stockbridge.
Cash said the Rockdale County and Henry County portions of the 60th should be its own district with one representative.
The new District 60 included two other incumbents Reps. Henrietta Turnquest and Stan Watson, both Democrats of Decatur.
