LAFAYETTE - A Georgia man charged in the shooting deaths of two brothers in Walker County refused to sign extradition papers Monday.
Twenty-one-year-old Donnie Allen Hulett, who was arrested Friday at a convenience store in Casa Grande, Arizona, will remain in an Arizona jail until an August 27 extradition hearing.
Georgia police suspect Hulett of killing 62-year-old Larry Phelps, a retired Whitfield County educator from Dalton, and 69-year-old Arvine Phelps, a retired Dalton State College professor from Rocky Face.
The two were shot while clearing brush near the Mountain Top Boys Home in Villanow, a residence for teenagers who have been in juvenile court.
The attacker robbed them of $400 and other personal items and stole Larry Phelps' pickup truck. Police said Hulett was driving the pickup when he was arrested 30 miles south of Phoenix.
Hullett is being held on Georgia charges of murder and car theft and on a stolen vehicle possession charge in Arizona.
