SNELLVILLE - One billboard company took down its five remaining billboards in Snellville by Tuesday evening, and another company planned to dismantle its sign no later than Thursday to be inspected for safety.
The safety inspections are part of an agreement with the suburban Atlanta city after a 60-foot billboard being put up collapsed last week, killing three workers and injuring another.
Trinity Outdoor LLC, a Buford advertising firm which owned that billboard, had its five other signs on the ground by 4 p.m. Tuesday, co-owner Morgan Hudgens said.
The other company involved in the agreement with the city to dismantle the billboards by Friday was Duluth-based ADvantage Advertising.
While the exact cause of the billboard collapse may remain unclear until the Occupational Safety and Health Administration issues its report in the fall, the city is assembling a team of engineering specialists that may release a preliminary report in a few weeks, Mayor Brett Harrell said.
